Thanks for all that you do for HipHop and also for providing a space for us to comment and interact. My take on this question is this: before we can even begin to answer whether or not a single political leader is good for Black America, I think we need to look at a much bigger thing: the mechanism under which said politican operates. In other words, is the U.S. Government good for Black America? That's the question that I think needs to be answered, analyzed, acted upon and countered. While I certainly hope that nothing bad happens to Obama, and while I agree with SOME of his points, I didnt' vote for him, I voted for Sis. Cynthia McKinney, as I just didn't and still don't agree with many of Obama's stances and policies, i.e.:
1)I don't agree with Obama's pro-Israel stance and backing of AIPAC, especially when that comes at the expense of the Palestinians and especially given the history of that area that many don't even want to talk about;
2)I don't agree with Obama not agreeing with single-payer healthcare (which would likely result in universal health care), especially when FIVE THOUSAND physicians signed a petition emphatically stating that this would fix the healthcare situation and bring about universal health care;
3)I don't agree with Obama's 5-10 energy plan: in my opinion, oil needs to be gotten rid of NOW, and cleaner alternative energy sources need to be implemented NOW;
4)I don't agree with the wall that Obama supported to keep out "illegal immigrants" especially when this country historically allowed former Nazis to come into the country after the Nuremberg Trails, and just the reality of who historically really classifies as alien and illegal to this continent;
5)I didn't agree with his stance on the Sean Bell verdict as well as the Jena 6 situation;
6)I didn't and still don't agree with his maneuvers on Rev. Wright and Farrakhan (though I understand why, but what does that say about the system he's spearheading and even moreso, about the "dominant" constituents of this country and the worldview they cling tenaciously to without question???);
and several other policy decisions of his that I still disagree with. With that being said, I still hope nothing bad happens to him, because I say that Barack's biggest challenge is: staying alive. That's his biggest challenge simply as a Black Man in the white house who's actually occupying the Oval Office rather than being a janitor or butler. The irony is this, though: even though Barack isn't a butler or janitor, he's still got a BIG-ASS mess that he has to spearhead cleaning up. That's ameriKKKa for ya - ameriKKKa is built on entropy and backwardness. I'll give him his props to some degree for him not letting his opponents see him sweat. That takes alot of composure.

Nonetheless, I'm going to try to do my part to help bring into existence what I feel needs to exist, and to help Obama out, because the ultimate reality is this: 1)Regardless of who is in the Oval Office, they are ONLY ONE PERSON and they cannot do everything by themselves. They are working under a multi-peopled systematic structure who are behind the scenes - a systematic structure whose sole purpose is to bring into being the whims and designs of the small wealthy "elite" group who hide behind their bank accounts and elaborately-scripted state-sponsored spectacles. I hope that when Barack attends his inaguration that the Secret Service are watching things alot closer than they did on that ride down a certain Texas boulevard in 1963. Peace.
