I voted for Barack. During the primaries I voted for Hillary Clinton. When I told people that then they asked don't you want to see a black man president. I said I wanted the person that would do the most for blacks president. At the time I was comfortable with the belief that a Hillary administration would contain blacks in high level places, and she would be an advocate of social services programs and services which support the poor. That's my business. Rama Networks Inc. non-profit charter contains "group homes and residency support centers" among other things. For me Barack was a black politician that I didn't know much about. I'm loyal by nature and rode with the Clintons, I was okay with Bill's run. I think he joked through the war on drugs like Bush before him, but that was one thing.

Now that Barack is scheduled to be president. I hope that he doesn't take the view that he is black enough for everybody, meaning there are no blacks in high level positions in his cabinet. So far none are mentioned as candidates. While I felt that Hillary would not have to be race conscious, and would tell anybody to kiss her ass if they questioned why she was "riding" hard with blacks. I feel Barack has to be conscious, therefore while we have the symbolic victory, we could get shorted substantially. Barack has to worry about what white people think. Instead of major programs and grant money targeted to the inner city, we get rhetoric, you can make it now, there's a black president, no excuses.

To me Baracks election shows what people have been saying for a while, Americans are more separated by class than race. Being black is no more a barrier to success than being white depending on where you are starting from. It's been like that for about thirty-five years now. Middle class blacks children typically stay middle class. Rich black's kids stay rich. The poor mostly stay poor. A black president doesn't cure a white family in Kentucky or West Virginia of generational poverty no more than it does a family in West Baltimore or Southside Richmond. Having a black president means that it is possible for a black man to get that job. It means enough people in America will support the right idea, regardless of the package, though the look of the package would be strongly considered. Barack could have the same message, be the same person, but would he have been elected if he looked like Danny Glover. Well we don't have to know, because God know's what he is doing. Barack is Barack, he's black.

Barack's election doesn't eliminate class. It doesn't eliminate the fact that blacks are the highest percenetage in the underclass. It doesn't eliminate the fact that there are still whites who will not hire or promote blacks into management if they can help it. If anything we may see a backlash in the underbush, as some jaded whites get a little more gritty when it comes to race. 'They got that nigger they ain't getting shit from me", type attitude. That's real. It's still a hateful and hurtful place out there and the weak economy is making it even more competitive. Race is still a team qualifier for some.

Barack knows classism. He constantly spoke about and to the middle class during his election. He didn't mention the underclass. At best he would talk about the person who was middle class and now unemployed. A good effective play on fear. I've never heard him say the word underclass though, but if you believe in a middle, than you have to believe in an under and higher. He didn't have to mention the underclass. He know their votes were in his pocket. The poor and working poor don't vote Republican. The middle class which consists of whites that are doing okay basically, is where the election was to be won or lost. So he catered to them in his speeches. Fine, do what you do to win.

Now how will you actually stop the jobs from going overseas? How do you spur economic growth in the inner cities? What about the war on drugs? The price of a kilo is low right now from what I hear. I haven't heard of any big drug bust lately. The Bush administration really started pandering to Colombia to move into checkmate position on Venezula. The drug cartels have the Colombian government, they are close to being the government. So border shipments have been safe. Local cops and DEA take down a local kingpin once every six months and that's the war on drugs.

What about Jesse Jackson? What does he get? Would Jackie Robinson have made it to the majors if there was no negro league? During this cabinet post nomination speculation period, people talk of so and so being an Obama friend. Well sometimes your best friends are people you really don't know. I don't think Barack has a better friend than Jesse. But Barack has to worry about what people will say. Jesse would have got more with Hillary. I hope the rest of us don't wind up the same way.
