FYI: Who's In The Room? Get Ready To Vote Viewing Party! October 30th 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM

What: We're watching an awesome documentary: Texas Is In Play featuring a variety of Hip Hop artists discussing the role of voting and politics in our communities including the efforts of grassroots movements like Texas Stand Up Movement and the one and only Davey D.


WITR will host a chat about V-Day and preparing to impact history on November 4, 2008.


When: Thursday October 30, 2008 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM

Where: Stratosphere Studios

in Broolyn
Take the Brooklyn-bound 2, 3 or 4 trains to Utica Ave. (last stop on the express 4 train). Stratosphere is a short walk over.


Why: You're excited and you can't wait to make history next week, but be prepared. There are certain things you should not do, say or bring with you to the polls. Find out here.


Who: Everyone is invited. Bring your friends, family, colleagues, folks on the street and those who feel less inclined to vote as well as those that will hit the polls running.

Houston Hip Hop Artists Urge Houstonians and All Texans

to Participate in the Political Process

HOUSTON, TX - Houston's local hip hop artists have taken an unprecedented interest in this election and are actively encouraging their fans and the public to vote early.
The web site www. texasstandup. com features videos that include local artists:

Bun B, Slim Thug, Scarface, K Rino, Cory Mo, Troublesum, Kam Franklin, b>Nina James.., Starchy Arch, Yung Redd, b>ZIN.., DJ Chill, Madd Hatta

It also features, Redman, David Banner, Big Boi, Big Rich, Malvadre, Killer Mike and many other artists, elected officials and local activists.


The artists want to connect with young Harris County voters through music and new media to support all of those who are ready to Stand Up and claim the full potential of this powerful new voting block by making their voices heard in this historic election.


The message is that every vote counts. Harris County voters have a chance to make history November 4th. The local artists, activists, elected officials, and everyday folks in Houston who are featured know that if we each take responsibility for ourselves and our friends and family members, making sure that each person is registered and votes, the people of Harris County have the power to create a ripple effect of positive change at the local, state and national level.


The site is loaded with hip hop videos and music that focus on the power of voting, and offers:

* A full length feature film featuring local and national artists
* Early voting locations, as well as voting tips and news updates
* A way to volunteer to support early voting in Harris County
* Information on felon voting laws
* Links to the companion YouTube channel, email updates, and a site-specific RSS feed

In addition to the web site, the campaign is implementing an aggressive online networking strategy along with four cable TV spots (top 4 videos on list) which are airing frequently on BET and Comedy Central.
