The legendary Juice Crew consisted of Marley Marl, Mc Shan, Big Daddy Kane, Biz Markie, Craig G, Kool G Rap & DJ Polo, Masta Ace, Roxanne Shante, Tragedy Khadafi (aka Intelligent Hoodlum), TJ Swan, and Cool V.
This line up was formidable when you consider all the Hall of Fame caliber names that were part of that collective. There collective talents all came to life when they put out songs like 'The Symphony' which in many ways elevated Hip Hop and the lyrical prowess of its emcees.
The Juice Crew proceeded another legendary crew by a good 8 years that was honing its skillz in New York's forgotten borough-Staten Island. While that often overlooked place was home to the Force MCs and later the UMCs, it was the Wu-Tang Clan that made Staten Island aka Shoalin a permanent part of Hip Hop folklore.
Like the Juice Crew, Wu-Tang elevated Hip Hop and redefined the lyrical game on a number of levels. To start they reminded people that you could come from the hood and still spit blazing rhymes. Their presence was in sharp contrast to the then emerging jiggy era personified by Notorious BIG and Puffy which seemed to suggest that cats had to talk about their material possessions and money in order to be relevant.
With all this mind imagine what would happen if the Juice Crew and Wu-Tang were to step into the Hip Hop Battle arena and lock lyrical horns who do you think would win? What would the match ups be? Gza vs Big Daddy Kane? Raekwon vs Kool G Rap? ODB v Biz Markie? Rza vs Marley Marl on the production tip..Such a contest would be amazing.
Think about it, access the skillz of these top notch emcees and weigh in as to who would win..
