1) FCC Hearing on Net Neutrality is Thursday at Stanford University

Everyone who uses the web to get accurate information, connect with like-minded people, or get the word out about a cultural event, action or campaign has a huge stake in a neutral Internet. This hearing is the result of documented tampering with web and wireless traffic by the big telecoms. And there is another big threat on the horizon. The future of the last democratic communications outlet in the United States cannot be pay-to-play. So folks, Thursday is a good time to re-arrange your schedules if you can, and get yourselves down to Dinkenspiel Auditorium at Stanford. Cal Train will get you there (free Stanford shuttle every 15 minutes from the University Avenue stop). If you can make a day of it, help us pass a "torch of Internet freedom" to the FCC in the morning, and if not, plan to make your ninety second public comment from 4:30 to 6:30pm. Media Alliance will be sponsoring two more public comment prep sessions, one tonight at the Bay Area Video Coalition from 4:30 to 6:30pm at 2727 Mariposa Street (come anytime) and one in East Palo Alto at the One East Palo Alto office at 1798 Bay Road in East Palo Alto tomorrow from 6:30 to 8:30pm. You can also download some background info and talking points here and on the morning of the hearing outside Dinkenspiel.

2) Media Alliance Annual Meeting - April 24th

Join us for a panel discussion on the state of alternative media and how you can plug in with IndyBay, Silicon De-Bug, BETV, and First Voice. 7pm at the Unitarian Fellowship Hall at 1924 Cedar Street in Berkeley. I know it can be hard to make time for annual meetings, but we promise to make it fun and enjoyable, serve you refreshments and maybe some music and we need fifty of you to come so we can have our board of directors installed for the 2008-2009 year. So please come, hang out, mingle, meet some interesting people or catch up with a few you haven't seen for a while.

3) MAFF - Media Alliance Film Festival - May 1st, May 8th and May 15th

The Little Roxie on Thursdays in May will be screening three terrific documentaries: Un Poquita de Tanta Verdad (A Little Bit of Too Much Truth), White Light, Black Rain and Hip-Hop: Beats and Rhyme as MA looks at the art of journalism: documentation, testimonial and analysis. Showtimes at 7pm and 8:30pm. Three wonderful films you don't want to miss.
