Nader knew what he was doing. He wanted to get his personal political agenda heard so he resorted to racial slurs to sensationalize his points, whether consciously or otherwise. He was hating on our generational achievement out of envy. It was obvious to me.

I don't want to get into this whole Nader thing really. But I am concerned by some of the policies that Obama was pressured into taking in order to get elected, which is what is expected in the system of politics and elections that we have in the US. I'm particularly concerned about his positions in regard to Latin America - wants to continue the embargo on Cuba... Said that Venezuela and Bolivia were vacuums that needed to be filled - but these are leftist governments...

Excellent article Davey. Ralph served a purpose a long time ago. He was one of the first consumer advocates, however he has since veered off into his own little ego world. As a 50ish white grandmother, I am looking forward to what the future brings. The day of the Jerry Falwell Moral Majority and their stranglehold on our political system is hopefully coming to an end. President Elect Obama is a fine man. It's going to take a while for him to get us on track.

Even more than that fellas, Nader is old enough to remember that "Uncle" is what all white people called an older black man in the south during times of slavery and beyond. Why is every other president the "Leader of the Free World" and the first black president gets to be "Uncle Sam" as his best option? first of all, Nader's comments have been somewhat misinterpreted. what he actually said was, is obama gonna be an uncle sam or an uncle tom? so it's a fair question, although his choice of wording could certainly be seen as being racially-insensitive. Nader had a chance to qualify his comments and didn't.

it seems the real issue here is whether its ok for white folks to use words which are coded with deep meaning for black people, like uncle tom or nigga. i would say no,...
