In my opinion, "The New Yorker" isn't to be taken too seriously given its satirical leanings. The Obama cover could be taken in any direction though I DO understand where the uproar can come from.

From my viewpoint, it looked kinda cool, but don't take me as a "turrist lovin' 'murican"...LOL!!!

Not to jump into the fray of the previous posts, but if one can produce positives for so-called deragotory terms regarding race,ethnicity,...

With all due respect, Critical Eye, that's a cop-out. Regardless of a word's origins, we know what it means today. There was a time when if you called a man "gay" it would be taken as a compliment, because it just meant happy. But calling someone that today, has a whole different effect.

"Bastard" is technically just a word to describe a child who was born out of wedlock, but it's currently used purely...

With all due respect, jrlemar, here's the deal with so-called epithets used on whites: 1)Historically, 9 times out of 10 they were invented by white people, to refer to other white people, 2)There's no way that these "epithets" are even systematically capable of depriving a whole group of peoples' (white folks) humanity; 3)Noting the previous two points, these terms, when used by peoples of African descent, could never be racist terms.
